YORK, Pa. — Collectibles are a hot commodity these days with a market set to boom, and Brent Morea is looking to help meet the demand.
"I like seeing their faces when they look around, and I try to make it an array of different things," said Morea of when people visit his shop.
From vintage records, antique toys, and classic video games, just about any collectible you can think of can be found at Stellar Collectibles on West Market Street in York.
Morea, who opened the business two years ago, said the store was inspired by the hobby he started as a kid.
“My father got me into this, with the coins, when I was thirteen," said Morea. "I started with coins and old currency, and then I slowly got into video games, toys, then comics and records.”
Morea said the prices for collectibles have skyrocketed as the demand for vintage items has increased. A report from Market Decipher said the collectibles market eclipse at $594.2 billion by 2034.
“Just five years ago, there were video games that were $200-300 that are $1,500 now," said Morea. "Same with the comic books... Stuff you could get out of a dollar bin is now $20-30 minimum.”
Stellar Collectibles offers wide selection of items for collectors
As the demand has increased, collectors from across Central Pa. have flocked to Stellar Collectibles to find a variety of valuable items.
“I have a lot of people looking for video games, like high-end stuff. And, I have a lot of people buying comics and records. Records are really hot right now," Morea explained.
What was once a childhood hobby has now turned into a thriving business, with Morea's children and wife helping him run the store.
"Having my family always doing that has been a big inspiration for me doing this," said Morea.
