Annual Mud Sale kicks off in Lancaster County

The Strasburg Fire Company’s annual Spring Mud Sale is the largest fundraiser the fire company hosts to help keep the lights on at the station.

LANCASTER, Pa. — It’s the 49th mud sale hosted by the Strasburg Fire Company.

The annual donation and consignment sale offers an array of products.

Including handmade Amish goods and farming equipment.

“You know- to me- that’s what small-town America is, it’s the community supporting each other whatever the organization is and I’m a firm believer that the firehouse is usually the center of the community and the best part is this sale is run by our Amish community, we couldn’t do the sale without them,” said Deputy Fire Chief Scott Weichler.

The event draws people from far and wide, including Kim Dipaula from New York.

“Oh, it’s just fun, the people, the auction, I love buying the crafts, it’s just fun,” Dipaula said.

It was a busy afternoon for Marylander Felicia Birch.

“The great deals and it’s to help out people, the fire company, and all,” Birch said.

From handmade quilts to handcrafted furniture, it’s an event that keeps people coming back year after year.

“I love Lancaster, it’s just the best place to come to,” Birch said.

“People, getting together with people that you know, get to talk to, it’s just a fun community day,” Dipaula added.

And Weichler couldn’t be more thankful.

“We are giving our time for free, and we can’t do it without the community supporting us,” Weichler said.

A portion of the event proceeds is expected to be put back towards the fire company.

“At the end of the day, our goal is 65 to 75 thousand dollars,” Weichler said.

The event is expected to continue Saturday at 8 a.m.
