Wendy's hit by tractor trailer in Dauphin County

The tractor trailer drove straight off Route 283 westbound into the Wendy's parking lot and hit the building, which sustained moderate damage, police said.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A tractor trailer crashed into the side of a Wendy's overnight, according to the Lower Swatara Fire Department.

The crash occurred just before 2:45 a.m. on July 12 at the Wendy's at 801 South Eisenhower Boulevard in Middletown, the Lower Swatara Township Police Department says. The restaurant sits at the intersection of Eisenhower Boulevard and Route 283 in Lower Swatara Township.

The driver of the truck allegedly told police that he was heading to Washington from Lancaster this morning when his glasses fogged up and he could not see. The tractor trailer drove straight off Route 283 westbound into the Wendy's parking lot and hit the building, which sustained moderate damage, police said.

The driver suffered some injuries to his face and was taken to a medical center for treatment, according to officers.

Police say H&S Towing is in the process of removing the truck tractor and trailer from the restaurant. PPL and UGI also responded to turn off the utilities.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
