HARRISBURG, Pa. — A man was arrested after stealing an Uber driver's car and fleeing from police, resulting in a high-speed chase through Harrisburg.

On Oct. 13 around 1:30 a.m., a vehicle was pulled over for a traffic violation. Police asked the driver to step out of the vehicle because the passenger, later identified as Christopher Anthony Tibbens, was "acting erratic."

Once the driver stepped out of the car, Tibbens lunged forward into the driver's seat and began to flee in the vehicle, according to police.

Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) followed Tibbens in a high-speed chase through the city of Harrisburg toward Route 22 East.

During the pursuit, Tibbens slowed the vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, and jumped out. The car ran into a telephone pole while Tibben continued on foot.

Tibbens was detained in a backyard shortly after and allegedly had prescription pills that were not prescribed to him, police said. PSP also found that Tibbens had two warrants for his arrest.

After he was detained, he was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, flight to avoid apprehension and drug possession.
