YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Hundreds of families across York County are expected to receive Thanksgiving meals courtesy of volunteers with Catholic Harvest Food Pantry.
The nonprofit, in partnership with LifePath Christian Ministries, has donated meals for nearly 15 years through YorkGiving.
It’s an annual program that distributes thanksgiving food to families in need in York and York County.
“Collections may have started almost six months ago in some cases, big donations helped us towards the purchase of some turkeys too, and many are families who just want to donate to help out other families,” described Shari Gordon, Executive Director.
Approximately 300 volunteers assist with the event, including the Kury family.
Daniel and Laura Kury have delivered meals for almost a decade.
Joined by their children, Joseph, Steven, and Olivia, it’s become a family tradition.
“It’s just one way we can get together, enjoy being with each other, and go out and give to other people,” Daniel said.
Like other volunteer families, the Kury’s are given a list of addresses to deliver to.
They’re vehicle is loaded up with turkey, potatoes, and other thanksgiving meal essentials.
“Dan does the driving, I make the phone calls, and the kids go out and do the deliveries, so I feel like we finally have it down after so many years and everybody is so thankful when we go to see them,” Laura said.
They help serve more than a thousand hungry families a year, combined with the efforts of other volunteers.
“We are close, somewhere in the range of up to 1,700,” Gordon said.
The nonprofit is expected to deliver more meals on Monday.
