West Shore School District opens two new intermediate schools

West Shore School District is making changes to schools in the district, including the opening of two new intermediate schools for fifth and sixth grade students.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — It's the first day of school for students in the West Shore School District and some classrooms will look different this year as the district is also opening two new intermediate schools.

Old Trail Intermediate School and Fairview Intermediate School are welcoming fifth and sixth grade students in for the start of the school year.

West Shore School District says the opening of these two new schools is to allow them to begin the feeder school concept, which adjusts attendance boundaries and aligns students with one of the district's two high schools.

WSSD explained that this concept was adopted from the district-wide feasibility study and the hope is to better accommodate the growing district.

This plan will keep students with the same group of classmates from kindergarten through graduation. No changes are being made to the existing high school boundary line.

The opening of these two new schools is phase two of the district's feasibility plan timeline.

The first phase of the plan included opening the new Rossmoyne Elementary, closing Lower Allen Elementary and demolishing the existing Rossmoyne school.

Phase three, which is allotted for the years 2026-2028, includes renovations and additions made to Allen Middle School, they plan to close New Cumberland Middle School, and they'll plan for the future of Fishing Creek and Newberry Elementary Schools.
