York City officer accused of reenacting George Floyd's death

York City Officer is under investigation after being accused of taking part in a reenactment of George Floyd's death.

YORK, Pa. — A York City police officer is on paid administrative leave after being accused of participating in a reenactment of George Floyd's death.

Post are circulating online that the incident, involving Clayton Swartz, allegedly happened while he was off duty at a party.

Officials aren't saying much.

"I will not confirm anything particular to the investigation," Commissioner Osborne Robinson of York City Police, said.

York Mayor Michael Helfrich said it happened in front of three young women, two of which were "of color."

"I think the allegations make it difficult for this officer to be working in our community," Helfrich said. "Any actions so disgusting as that described in the allegations would be dealt with immediately if I had proof in front of me."

Which is why Helfrich took to facebook, saying in part, "This is why I am telling people to video everything. If we had video of what he is accused of, he could be gone already. "

"I'm not saying that these individual ladies should've been recording," Helfrich said. "I'm saying that by getting recordings it helps me do my job - to make sure we have the best police department."

Helfrich said the officer is no longer on public duty and has been placed on desk duty, according to a message on his Facebook page.

The officer is expected to remain on desk duty until an investigation into the incident is completed.

"There is nothing that you can say, whether it is making a joke, it's extremely distasteful and it's inconsistent with the ideals of the organization and the policies of our organization," Robinson said.

FOX43 reached out to George Swartz, Clayton's father and the Spring Garden Township police chief. He did not reply to our request for a comment.

The death of George Floyd has sparked protests around the country, after a video captured a former police officer kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes.

In recent days, there have been protests in York City, as well.
