YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Update, Jan. 28, 2024: The York County Coroner's Office released the results of Michael Keys' autopsy on Friday.
The coroner determined Keys died from sharp force trauma after being stabbed by suspect Ty'quan Rosario.
His manor of death is listed as homicide.
Update, 10:30 a.m. (Dec. 7): York City Police and members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested a 16-year-old suspect accused of fatally stabbing 14-year-old Michael Keys III.
Ty'quan Rosario was arrested without incident Thursday morning at his home in the city, police said Friday. He is charged as an adult with Criminal Homicide.
According to police documents, two groups of people gathered at Penn Park after school was let out Wednesday afternoon. The groups then moved up towards the 300 block of Pershing Avenue, where 14-year-old Michael Keys III was stabbed.
“There is that possibility that prior incidents led up to what ended up happening yesterday, meaning anticipation of some sort of encounter," said Detective Andy Baez with the York City Police Department.
Detective Baez said video from security cameras and cell phones captured the fight that led to Keys' death.
“We go back to the adage of, ‘thank God for cameras, but unfortunate for cameras,’ because it shows the whole incident from almost at the beginning," said Baez.
Baez is anticipating more arrests as the investigation continues.
Keys succumbed to his injuries at 12:32 p.m. at Wellspan York Hospital. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday morning, at which point there will be a determination on the cause and manner of death, York County Coroner Pamela Gay said.
