YORK, Pa. — A York woman will serve life in prison for the 2022 murder of 18-year-old Amiya Paige, York County District Attorney Dave Sunday announced Thursday morning.
Alajah Elizabeth Holmes, 21, had previously pleaded guilty to criminal homicide in August, Sunday said. Holmes did not dispute the accusation that she fired the shot that killed Paige on December 31, 2022.
Authorities responding to a shots-fired report at about 1:17 a.m. found Paige suffering from a gunshot wound to the back on the 300 block of West Jackson Street. She succumbed to her injury at an area hospital, police said at the time.
Holmes turned herself in to authorities on January 7, 2023.
"Kudos to the York City Police Department, Chief Deputy Prosecutor Chuck Murphy, and Senior Deputy Prosecutor Jenna Strausbaugh for an outstanding investigation and prosecution," Sunday said in a post on his office's Facebook page.
