WRIGHTSVILLE, Pa. — A Lancaster County woman is facing several charges after police claim she was caught driving under the influence with a 15-year-old passenger in her vehicle in York County Sunday night.

Amber Marie Vanaulen, 34, of Columbia, is also accused of becoming belligerent and uncooperative with staff at York County Central Booking following her arrest, according to Hellam Township Police.

Vanaulen was pulled over at about 11:53 p.m. after a Hellam Township Police officer observed her white BMW sedan traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 30 East. The vehicle also appeared to have illegally tinted windows and a tinted license plate cover, the officer noted.

When police attempted to pull her over, Vanaulen allegedly refused to stop her vehicle and continued traveling on Route 30 East for approximately five miles before leaving the highway at the Wrightsville Exit.

Police pulled over Vanaulen's vehicle at a park and ride area on Cool Springs Road. When she exited the vehicle, the officer detected the strong odor of alcohol emanating from her and observed signs of impairment. There were also iced alcoholic drinks normally purchased from a convenience store visible on the vehicle's front passenger side floor, the officer noted.

A preliminary breath test determined Vanaulen's BAC to be at .109%, police said. She was taken into custody.

While at Central Booking for a blood draw, Vanaulen allegedly became uncooperative and belligerent with staff, according to police.

She is charged with DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude police, endangering the welfare of a child, and multiple summary traffic violations.
