YORK, Pa. — A York County man was arrested last week after leading police on a brief vehicle chase in a suspected stolen car, according to State Police.
Yariel Fuentes-Reyes, 18, of Laurel, was driving a white Chevrolet Camaro believed to have been among the vehicles stolen from a Lancaster County auto dealership when he was seen driving south on Memory Lane in York County by a State Police trooper at 3:51 a.m. on May 29.
The Camaro and a similar vehicle were taken from a Lancaster County auto dealership a few hours earlier, and the suspects eluded police after a short vehicle chase on Route 72 in Lancaster County, according to police. The chase was stopped due to concerns for public safety, but authorities in other jurisdictions were told to be on the lookout for the suspected stolen vehicles.
Shortly before 4 a.m., State Police were canvassing the area of Haines Road and East Market Street in Springettsbury Township when they observed a white Camaro and another vehicle matching the description of the cars stolen from the Auto Auction, the complaint states.
When the drivers saw the police vehicle, they immediately accelerated, and a vehicle chase ensued, according to police. Fuentes-Reyes, who was driving the Camaro, fled from his vehicle on foot after striking a curb shortly after the vehicle chase began, police said. He was found attempting to hide under a nearby trailer and was taken into custody.
Fuentes-Reyes is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, evading arrest or detention on foot, recklessly endangering another person, and seven summary traffic offenses, according to charging documents.
Police are still investigating the other thefts.
