York County high school student injured in stabbing, classmate arrested

The student was stabbed Monday in the Camelot Arms apartment complex, about 3 miles from the high school, superintendent Peter J. Aiken said in messages to parents.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A Central York High School student was stabbed earlier this week and a suspect is in custody, according to a message sent to parents and guardians by district superintendent Peter J. Aiken.

The student was attacked in the area near Camelot Arms Apartments, Aiken said in his initial message to Central York families Tuesday night. The apartment complex is roughly three miles from the high school campus.

The stabbing occurred on Monday, Aiken said. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to his neck, abdomen and back.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the suspect has been identified as Carmelo Emilio Colon, 15, from York. He has been charged with criminal attempted homicide and two counts of aggravated assault.

The affidavit states that Colon and the victim were captured on video surveillance together before the stabbing. The victim also allegedly identified Colon as his attacker, who is also a student at Central York High School.

The incident is being investigated by Springettsbury Township Police.

"As a district, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with our affected student and their family," Aiken said in an update to Central York families on Wednesday.

According to the affidavit, the victim was transported to York Hospital, intubated and placed in critical condition.
