YORK, Pa. — The City of York announced it will ring in the New Year with a special celebration in Continental Square.

The party begins at 9:30 pm on Sunday, December 31, the city said. Music by RalphReal, the Family Jam, DJ ConFusion and DJ Eazy Boi will lead up to the annual dropping of the White Rose at midnight, followed by a sure-to-be spectacular fireworks display.

York’s Continental Square is located at the intersection of Market and George Streets. Parking is nearby, including York City garages located at 25 W. Philadelphia St., 15 W. King St. and 41 E Market St. Officials advise that drivers enter the Market Street garage from Duke Street.

The celebration will impact traffic in the City; motorists are recommended to allow for some additional time to drive.

Specifically, Market St. will be closed from Beaver St. to Duke St. from 9:00 pm on December 31 until approximately 1:00 am on January 1. George St. will be closed from Philadelphia St. to King St. from 9:00 pm on December 31 until approximately 1:00 am on January 1. On-street parking will be restricted in these areas beginning at 5:00 pm on December 31.

The New Year’s Eve celebration is sponsored by UPMC.

For those who do not want to keep the children up late, the nonprofit Keystone Kidspace located at 10 Hamilton Ave. is hosting a kid-centered celebration to welcome the New Year during the afternoon, with tickets set at $10 each.

Keystone Kidspace will be open from noon to 4:00 pm, with a ball drop at 1:00 pm, “ice” skating, a “snow” ball fight at 2:00 pm and an “around the world” dance party.
