YORK COUNTY, Pa. — One person is dead after being struck by multiple vehicles on Interstate 83.
Pennsylvania State Police say a multi-vehicle crash occurred around 12:27 a.m. on Jan. 16 at mile marker 36 southbound in Fairview Township, York County.
Troopers say one of the drivers, 41-year-old Joseph Biswa, got out of his car, which was disabled after the crash and blocking the southbound lanes of traffic. Investigation allegedly determined that another car then struck Biswa's vehicle, pushing it into Biswa. The impact knocked him over the center median into the northbound lanes on I-83.
Biswa was then struck by a tractor trailer and a van, according to PSP. He died at the hospital.
The northbound lanes of I-83 were reopened at 4:30 a.m. PennDOT reported just before 6:45 a.m. that the southbound lanes were also open.
Officials noted that visibility at the time of the crash was very poor, and initial information was limited.
