YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Police in York County are investigating reports of numerous thefts of political campaign signs.
The Fairview Township Police Department on Thursday said it has received numerous complaints about the thefts, and reminded residents that taking signs placed on both private property and public right-of-way areas can be considered theft, and offenders caught removing signs could face potential criminal charges.
"We understand that elections are very important to the local population and races can become very heated," the police department said. "With that being said, do not become a criminal in an effort to impose your political will on other people. We want to have a safe and fair local election. If we become aware of criminal activity, we will take all appropriate action to enforce the law regardless of which political campaign the offender supports."
Anyone with information regarding the theft of campaign signs in the area is asked to contact Fairvew Township Police at (717) 901-5267 or submit a tip online.
