Here's why York's annual ice sculpting festival has been called off this year

The York Revolution, which organized the event, said there was insufficient sponsorship to hold it again.

YORK, Pa. — Note: The video is from last year's FestivICE event.

FestivICE, York's winter festival featuring ice carvings placed throughout the downtown area, will not be held in the city this year, organizers said.

The event, which had been held in mid-January for the last eight years, was canceled after the York Revolution, its primary organizer, was unable to find sufficient sponsorship to support it.

Revolution president Eric Mentzer said in an email to FOX43 that he could "only assume the businesses previously involved had other priorities this year."

"This is a very expensive event to produce because the ice carving is a labor-intensive process that takes weeks off-site," Mentzer said.

The baseball team has no plans to replace the event with something else, according to Mentzer.

"Right now, we are focused on sales for our baseball season," he said. "If in the course of conversation it comes up that someone would like to revive this event, we would certainly listen but right now opening day is about 100 days away so that’s our primary focus."
