Six adults and five children were forced to vacate their home after a fire in York County.

YORK, Pa. — Eleven people are temporarily without a home after a fire in York County displaced them.

The fire broke out just after 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 at a residence on the 500 block of Albemarle Street in Spring Garden Township, according to York County 911 Dispatch.

Arriving fire personnel were told there were people trapped inside on the second and third floors of the structure, according to York Area United Fire & Rescue. Firefighters quickly entered the building to search the interior, while other crew members installed ladders at the front of the building to assist evacuation efforts.

Two adults were rescued from the second floor via ladders, while a 9-year-old girl used a ladder to escape the third floor, the fire department said.

During the rescue effort, a "mayday" was transmitted by one of the firefighters on the scene, according to the fire department. The "mayday" was cleared with no resulting injuries, the fire department said.

The 9-year-old girl rescued from the third floor was taken to WellSpan York Hospital for treatment; her condition is unknown, according to the fire department.

A total of six adults and five children were displaced by the fire, the fire department said. Some of the displaced people lived in the unit next to the one that caught fire, the battalion chief said. Their unit suffered smoke damage.

The coroner was not called to the scene.

York Area United Fire and Rescue is investigating the fire.
