YORK, Pa. — A York County grocery store caught fire on Tuesday morning, forcing a temporary shutdown.
According to emergency dispatch, crews were sent to the GIANT store located off of East Market Street in Springettsbury Township for a fire around 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 29.
York Area Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Todd Heilman told our crew at the scene that when units arrived, they saw black smoke coming from the roof of the store.
Heilman said the fire was located in the hood system above the fryer where staff prepares Chinese food inside the deli.
Upon arrival, Heilman said that the fire had spread to the roof of the store through that hood system.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, and no one was injured as the building was evacuated safely.
According to officials with GIANT, the store re-opened several hours later.
