YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Fire officials are warning drivers of the consequences of driving over fire hoses after an incident in York County.
According to the Hellam Fire Company, at 6:35 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, Engine 21-2 was dispatched to a residential fire along the first block of Woodstone Court, assisting York Area United Fire and Rescue.
While pumping the hydrant to the scene, multiple cars struck the supply hose, causing damage and delaying the water supply to the scene.
Driving over a fire hose is not only illegal but dangerous to drivers, firefighters and bystanders.
PA Title 75, Chapter 37, Section 3708 states “No vehicle shall be driven over any unprotected hose of a fire department when laid down on any highway, private road or driveway, for use at any fire or alarm of fire, without the consent of a fire department officer, a police officer or other appropriately attired person authorized to direct, control or regulate traffic at the scene.”
