Fourth suspect charged in connection to deadly 2022 shooting in York

Furman Dennis, 21, is believed to be one of the suspects involved in the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Shaheim Carr on West Philadelphia Street in 2022, police said.

YORK, Pa. — Note: The video is from July 10, 2022.

Police have charged a fourth suspect in the deadly shooting of a York man in 2022.

Furman Dennis, 21, of York, was charged this week with criminal homicide in connection to the shooting death of 27-year-old Shaheim Carr on the 300 block of West Philadelphia Street in July 2022, according to a criminal complaint affidavit filed by York City Police.

Dennis is the fourth suspect charged in the case. One alleged accomplice, Jaquez Brown, was taken into custody on July 11, 2022. Two others, Rashad Colon and Antonio Jones, were arrested in April 2023.

All four men were the occupants of a 2015 Ford Fusion that fired at Carr as he exited a home shortly after 11 a.m. on July 6, 2022, police claim.

According to police, the entire incident was captured by multiple surveillance cameras. Brown, Colon, Jones and Dennis, were all seen firing multiple shots at Carr, who was carrying a black backpack as he walked toward his car, which was parked along the street.

After Carr was struck, he fell to the ground, got up, and tried to run back toward a nearby breezeway. The suspects continued walking toward him on foot and firing, following Carr into the breezeway and out of camera view, police said.

Moments later, three of the suspects are seen leaving the breezeway on foot and returning to their vehicle, while the fourth stops to pick up Carr's cell phone, which he dropped after being struck by gunfire, according to police.

Police say investigators were able to identify Carr, a known member of York's Parkway gang, based on prior interactions with law enforcement.

Gangs in York City are divided by geographic location, police said in charging documents. There is a history of violence between the East/South and West/Parkway groups, according to police.

Before Carr's murder, there were several homicides back and forth between the opposing sides, police said.

Police used surveillance footage from near the scene to identify the first three suspects. Investigators were later able to access a cell phone belonging to Colon and used data to confirm his presence at the crime scene on the day of the attack, according to the complaint.

Colon's cell phone also contained a photo of Dennis, which was later used to confirm his identity as the fourth suspect, police said.

Police were able to use surveillance footage to trace the suspects as they left the scene of the shooting and attempted to check in to an area hotel. Investigators also obtained information from the suspects' cell phones to help prove their alleged involvement in the homicide, according to the complaint.
