'Future Focus Fair' in York gears young residents towards employment opportunities

The career fair and educational event was held for the first time in York.

YORK, Pa. — The first-ever Future Focus Fair was held in York on Wednesday, which helped gear younger residents of the city toward job opportunities and education.

The event was organized by The Program "It's About Change" and served as a job fair with local employers such as Sheetz, GIANT, the York Police Department and the Pennsylvania National Guard.

It also served an educational purpose through providing workshops on the interview process and resumes among other aspects of the job search.

"I hope they get new skills that they didn't have before," said Corey Wolfe, the CEO of The Program "It's About Change." "I hope they get an experience where they might be connecting with a resource that they might not be able to use right now, but could in the future."

Work permits for those under 18 years old were processed on-site by William Penn Senior High School.

More than 100 job seekers were expected to attend the fair.

Wolfe says he hoped that the fair would show participants that there are enough opportunities out there for everyone, regardless of age.

"Just because they're not 18 doesn't mean that there aren't jobs out there," said Wolfe. "We've been able to show that there are employers who are showing up to this event just to be able to find those employees. So there's more than just what's here."
