Community takes less than a week to raise enough money to keep Hanover eagle camera running

HDonTap said the community has donated enough funds to supply power to the popular camera feed

HANOVER, Pa. — It took less than a week to keep the popular eagles nest camera running at Codorus State Park.

Just a few days after the operator discovered that the power to the Hanover Eagle's Nest Livestream Camera had been cut, the community banded together to keep the power on, Friends of Codorus State Park said on Facebook.

According to a message sent to the Facebook group by HDonTap, which operates the camera, the community donated the $10,000 HDonTap asked for to hire a contractor to trench about a thousand feet of wiring and reestablish power to the electronics box to get the cameras back online.

HDonTap learned in September that power supplied to the cameras from a nearby home had been cut when the home was removed.

HDonTap made a public appeal for help to keep the cameras going, and birdwatching fans from across the globe stepped up.

"We cannot express how grateful we are to you loyal viewers, your dedication to the Hanover eagle cam is astounding," HDonTap's message said. "We are completely blown away it only took one week to raise the funds needed to restore power.

"We are brainstorming a thoughtful way to personally thank each and every one of you for your generosity. Thank you all so much, again. We can never thank you enough. Updates from the nest to come tomorrow!"

Livestream coverage of the eagles nest in the Hanover park first began running in 2013. It has evolved from a single-camera setup to multiple cameras showing different angles of the nest and its occupants, including a night-vision feed.
