Police: Hanover man facing charges for false report of robbery

The victim reported men in a vehicle forced them to withdraw cash from an ATM after offering the victim a ride. Police say the robbery never occurred.

HANOVER, Pa. — Update, May 9: The Hanover Borough Police Department announced today that they are pressing charges against a man for making false claims to law enforcement in relation to the alleged armed robbery on May 4.

Police say further investigation determined that the robbery never occurred.

A 63-year-old Hanover man is facing charges of unsworn falsification to authorities and false reports to law enforcement.

Previously: Police are investigating a suspected strong-arm robbery in Hanover.

It occurred between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Saturday on the 100 block of Carlisle Street, according to Hanover Police.

The victim reported a male suspect offered them a ride, but when the victim entered the vehicle, a second male suspect allegedly brandished a handgun and demanded money. They then drove the victim to the first block of Baltimore Street, where he forced the victim to withdraw cash from an ATM.

He then took the victim's money and let the victim go, police said.

The victim was not injured, according to police.

The vehicle's driver is described as a light-skinned Black male, while the suspect with the firearm is described as a Black male with dark complexion. A third passenger in the vehicle was described as a Black male with a light complexion, police said.

All three suspects are believed to be in their 20’s, according to police.

The victim could not provide further information about the suspects. The vehicle was described as a gray SUV with tinted windows.
