York teen, man arrested following deadly fight

Andy Williams Ramos-Alicea Sr., 38, and Andy Rico Ramos-Alicea, 17, both from York, have been charged with criminal homicide as a result of Jared Harpster's death.

YORK, Pa. — A York County man died Saturday of injuries he sustained in a fight earlier in the day, York County Coroner Pamela Gay said Monday.

Jared Harpster, 35, of Newberry Township, was pronounced dead at WellSpan York Hospital at 1:09 p.m. Saturday, Gay said.

He had reportedly been involved in a fight in York City at 11:20 a.m. that day, Gay said.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Harpster and others went to the 600 block of West College Avenue to help a family member who was in a verbal argument with Andy Rico Ramos-Alicea Jr., 17, of York. When Harpster and the others arrived, they began fighting with the group of people at the West College Avenue residence, including Andy Williams Ramos-Alicea Sr., 38, also of York.

During the fight, Ramos-Alicea Jr. pulled a pistol out of his waistband and shot several times, striking Harpster, according to a criminal complaint. Police say that after Harpster was shot, Ramos-Alicea Jr. ran away, while Ramos-Alicea Sr. ran toward the victim and can be seen on video swinging a knife in a downward motion.

Harpster was found suffering from serious injuries on the 600 block of West College Avenue and was transported to York Hospital for treatment.

Despite receiving therapeutic and life-saving measures at the hospital, Harpster succumbed to his injuries, Gay said.

According to Captain Daniel Lentz with the York City Police Department, both Ramos-Aliceas have been charged with criminal homicide as a result of Harpster's death.

Ramos-Alicea Sr. was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 25 and was denied bail. Ramos-Alicea Jr. is facing additional charges of false imprisonment and possession of a firearm by a minor. Court documents show he was arrested on Feb. 27 and denied bail.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, at which time Harpster's cause and manner of death will be released, according to Gay.
