WELLSVILLE, Pa. — The former PTO president of a York County elementary school has been charged with using money from the organization to pay for personal expenses, State Police claim.
Jennifer Beck, 41, of Dover, has been charged with theft by unlawful taking and access device fraud, according to State Police. She is the former president and treasurer of the Wellsville Elementary School's Parent-Teacher Organization, police said.
Wellsville Elementary School is part of the Northern York School District.
According to police, Beck improperly used the PTO's debit card to make eight cash withdrawals and 56 transactions at stores, gas stations and restaurants to pay for her own expenses between 2020 and 2021.
The total of the expenses was more than $4,811, State Police said.
After she stepped down as president of the PTO, Beck allegedly deposited a $2,000 check into the organization's account. She later sent another check for more than $2,770, police said.
Investigators said Beck told them she remembered using the card at various stores, but claimed that she had done so for personal transactions, it was by mistake.
Police began investigating in January 2022, when the PTO's new treasurer and vice president contacted authorities with suspicions that Beck had been using the PTO's bank card improperly.
Beck is awaiting arraignment on the charges and is free after posting bail of $5,000, according to court records.
