YORK HAVEN, Pa. — Police in York County have charged two Maryland men in an alleged home invasion and attempted burglary on Saturday in Newberry Township.

Deshawn Young, 25, and Keontae Hartley, 30, are accused of breaking into a home on the 3200 block of Old Trail Road and attempting to steal two dirt bikes stored in the basement. They left the bikes and fled the scene after being confronted by the homeowner, according to Newberry Township Police.

The homeowner provided police with descriptions of the suspects' clothing and the white 2013 Honda Odyssey minivan they fled in, according to criminal complaint affidavits filed by investigators.

The vehicle was pulled over by Northern York County Regional Police while traveling on Interstate 83 South near Exit 20, the complaints state.

When Newberry Township Police arrived at the traffic stop, they noted the suspects' clothing matched the description from the homeowner, who also provided Ring camera footage to investigators.

Police also noted the vehicle's expired license plate had been covered with a restaurant menu, and that its windows were so heavily tinted "that it was difficult to see inside the vehicle at all," according to the complaint.

While being questioned by police, both suspects claimed to be coming from Harrisburg, but provided different reasons as to why. Neither would answer any questions about the alleged burglary, according to the complaint.

After obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle, police found several long pry bars and crowbars similar to the instruments used to gain entry into the victim's home, according to the complaint. Police also found gloves and facemasks matching the description of those used in the burglary.

Both suspects have extensive criminal records, according to police.

Both suspects are charged with burglary, theft, criminal trespassing, possessing an instrument of crime, criminal mischief, and loitering and prowling at nighttime.

Young faces additional charges of driving with a suspended license and driving an unregistered vehicle.
