MANCHESTER, Pa. — A York County school district turned buses around Friday morning after deciding to close the schools "out of an abundance of caution," according to a post on Facebook.

The York County Regional Police Department shared an update about an hour later stating that at around 7 a.m. this morning, it learned of a threat of a specific act of violence directed toward the school district made on a social media platform.

Police notified the NSD, which made the decision to close all schools today for the safety of students and staff.

High school and middle school buses turned around to return students to their homes. Authorities said that students who were dropped off and walkers who got to school had already exited the buildings, and staff were working with them to make phone calls and arrangements to get home.

The school noted that their notification platform is down and they are working to get a phone call out to families as soon as possible.

The York County Regional Police Department is investigating the threat. Once identified, those involved in the threat will face significant consequences by enforcement agencies, according to the school district.
