YORK COUNTY, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Welcome Center on Interstate 83 North near the Maryland-Pennsylvania border in York County will be closed through Monday, Nov. 4 for repair work, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said this week.
The closure is in place so that workers can replace the building's HVAC system with a new, more energy efficient system, PennDOT said.
The Welcome Center's parking lot will also remain closed through Nov. 4, according to PennDOT.
The replacement work is a Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) project, initiated by PennDOT and the Department of General Services in 2021.
GESA projects upgrade heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting systems to improve energy efficiency in buildings and decrease growing energy costs. These upgrades significantly reduce energy usage which result in decreased utility spending, according to PennDOT.
