Residents opposing York County warehouse complex ask township to reconsider

Residents are speaking out about a proposed industrial complex outside Dillsburg, York County that would neighbor homes and schools.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A sleepy country road in Carroll Township could soon be the sight of a massive warehouse complex.

SKDM Dillsburg Land LLC wants to use 100 land acres near Route 15 to create a site it calls Northern Business Park.

"They want to build three warehouses, close to a million square feet under roof," said Jim Young, a Carroll Township resident who has property not far from the proposed warehouse site.

Young joined a group of concerned residents in forming Dillsburg Area Residents for Reasonable Growth.

"The children in the community are constantly outside playing in an area that we felt was really safe moving here," said Sarah Westhafer, a resident of Carroll Township who's opposing the plan. "We’re concerned what these changes might bring to our community."

Residents said Golf Couse Road would be inundated with truck traffic because of the new project. They believe that creates a safety concern for students in the nearby school district.

"We have students from the high school cross country team that run from the school through our neighborhood almost every day during the season," Westhafer said.

"They’re talking about up to a thousand truck trips per day," Young said. "I really can’t imagine those truck driving by our schools, driving down Golf Course, making 15 worse than it already is."

Residents said they’re concerned about air, light and noise pollution from the 24-hour complex.

The developer has submitted plans to Carroll Township, needing a conditional use permit to start the build. The township continued the first zoning meeting to December 14th.

Opposing homeowners said they won’t back down, starting a GoFundMe for legal representation.

"We’re really hoping that if we continue to band together and raise our concerns that hopefully the township will take that into consideration as they make their decision," Westhafer said.

"Nothing against truck drivers, but this is just not an area where it fits," Young added.

Carroll Township officials and the developer’s parent company did not immediately respond to FOX43's request for comment.
