YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A police department in York County is warning residents of a reported scam they believe is intended to lure victims away from their homes for a burglary.

According to the Southern Regional Police Department, officers received two reports of scam calls in Stewartstown Borough within two hours of each other.

The scam caller claims to be "Lieutenant Michael Williams" with the York County Sheriff's Office. The caller allegedly asks to speak to a named individual at the address and warns the victim that they didn't appear for a subpoena and are to report to 45 N. George St. in York City or officers will respond to their home to arrest them.

According to police, the listed address is the York County Judicial Center, and the phone number that appears on the victim's phone is a legit phone number for the York County 911 Dispatch Center.

The actual sheriff's office has been notified of these incidents and has reportedly confirmed that it is a scam.

The Southern Regional Police Department believes the scammers are attempting to lure victims away from their homes to commit a burglary.

"Please don't fall victim to these types of calls and always contact your police department if you are unsure," the department wrote on CRIMEWATCH.
