GLEN ROCK, Pa. — Two residents of a York County home were injured in a fire caused by an exploding oxygen tank Wednesday morning, fire officials said.

The fire occurred at 5 a.m. on the 12000 block of Bohr Court in Shrewsbury Township, according to emergency dispatch.

Responding emergency personnel found one victim in a room on the first floor of the home, according to Glen Rock Hose and Ladders assistant fire chief Josh McCullough. The second victim was found lying in the yard.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and the victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. McCullough said he did not know the extent of their injuries.

McCullough said it appeared the fire started when one of the residents was smoking while using an oxygen tank, causing an explosion.

The fire caused about $150,000 in damage, according to McCullough. Most of the damage was located in the kitchen, living room, hallway and one bedroom.

McCullough reminded the public that smoking while on an oxygen tank is "extremely dangerous" and not worth the risk, noting there was a fatal fire in Hanover earlier this year that started the same way.

"This fire could have had a worse outcome," McCullough said.
