YORK COUNTY, Pa. — The School District of the City of York acknowledged recent threats made to its schools over social media.
According to an official statement released on Wednesday, district administrators became aware of a violent message circulating online on Tuesday evening.
As a result of the threats, the district implemented safety precautions, including increased police presence during entry and dismissal times, mobile police patrols throughout the district and suspension of outdoor activities for the rest of the week.
York City Police Commissioner Michael Muldrow issued a statement on Wednesday, claiming to have identified the 13-year-old student who made the threats. Charges are forthcoming, and the student has been suspended and is pending expulsion.
Law enforcement say the students named in the "threat list" are safe.
District administrators emphasized the severity of making threatening statements online and encouraged students to report suspicious activity to school staff members or on the Safe2Say Something Hotline.
