Pennsylvania groups to volunteer for hurricane relief

Servants Inc. out of Red Lion will travel to Asheville, NC to assist with damage from Hurricane Helene.

RED LION, Pa. — After Asheville, North Carolina experienced severe storm damage in the wake of Hurricane Helene, help has come from across the country, including south-central Pennsylvania.

Servants Incorporated, a Red Lion-based non-profit that takes hundreds of volunteers from local churches to disaster areas, will travel to Asheville this weekend to assist with home repair.

"The amount of damage that we've seen with Hurricane Helene is going to take multiple years of recovery," said Trent Davis, the founder and CEO of Servants Inc. "Just the infrastructure alone, the amount of roads and bridges that are out, is going to take a lot of time, and it's going to hamper the efforts for the rebuilding process."

Servants Inc. will bring supplies to attempt to clear debris from the area.

"We're taking down a lot of supplies to help with the recovery efforts," Davis said. "We're going to be doing mostly clean-out of homes, getting rid of the mud in basements, getting rid of trees that might be down."

Davis is also keeping his eye on Florida, where Hurricane Milton threatens to bring potentially catastrophic storm damage to the state.

"We're praying for the folks down there, that they could be safe and that there's minimal damage," Davis said. "But in the event that there is, then we'll be ready to respond to that as well."
