YORK, Pa. — A highly sought-after muscle car is heading to the auction block, and the proceeds from its sale will benefit the York County Food Bank.
The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, has a 1,025 horsepower when running on E85 fuel, making it the most powerful Challenger in history. The car can hit 60 mph in 1.66 seconds, according to the York-based auto dealership Stetler Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram.
Only 3,300 versions of the vehicle were manufactured, and Stetler Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, located on 1405 Roosevelt Avenue, recently received one of them. The York dealership is part of the Jack Giambalvo Family of Dealerships.
Due to the small number of vehicles made and their incredible power, Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170s are in high demand among muscle car aficionados. The cars are selling well above the manufacturer's suggested retail price of $98,261, according to John Giambalvo, president and CEO of the Jack Giamalvo Family of Dealerships.
In some cases, Giambalvo said, the cars are selling for more than double the MSRP, prompting some collectors to buy the cars only to "flip" them for substantial profits.
Giambalvo decided the profits from the sale of a Challenger SRT Demon 170 could go to a more worthwhile endeavor, which is where the idea to auction off the vehicle and donate any proceeds over MSRP originated.
Employees of the Jack Giambalvo Family of Dealerships were polled to choose the charitable organization that would receive the proceeds, and they picked the York Food Bank.
The online auction will launch sometime in March or early April on bringatrailer.com, Giambalvo said.
