Nearly one year after his disappearance, the family of Kadin Black continues to seek answers

A vigil was held in Lower Windsor Township, York County on Kadin Black's 20th birthday, nearly one year since his disappearance on December 17, 2022.

WRIGHTSVILLE, Pa. — It’s been nearly one year since the disappearance of York County teenager Kadin Black. Sunday was Kadin’s birthday, and a vigil was held in his honor.

The rainy, gloomy day seemed fitting for a mourning mother.

"Kadin is very loved. He's very missed," Kadin's mother Kara Patterson said. "It's unimaginable. It's one of those things that you hear about, but you never think is going to happen to you."

“Our whole family is missing him," Patterson said. "It makes a difference in everything”

Kadin turned 20 on Sunday. His community lit candles, not meant for a birthday.

“Every birthday, every holiday that comes around is definitely the toughest," Kadin's brother, Carter Black said.

Carter continues to wish for a sign of his brother.

“Just a simple ‘Hey, Mom, I'm safe. I'm fine. I'm okay.’ And he could hang up the phone," Carter said. "I think that would start pushing my mom in a better direction, pushing the whole family in a better direction."

Kara and Maurice say their hope for answers keeps them going.

“It's just tough," Carter said. "You sit there and you ponder and ponder and ponder then you're like, 'I gotta wake up, smack yourself in the face, and keep going.'"

"Kadin, if he's out there, just come home," Patterson said. "Just let us know that you're okay. If you're okay. Let us know that you're okay."

Kadin’s parents say it’s been months since they heard from authorities regarding Kadin’s disappearance. There's currently a $5,000 reward for information about his whereabouts.
