YORK COUNTY, Pa. — An April Fool's joke from last year will now be the centerpiece of a York County holiday celebration.

WellSpan Park, home to the York Revolution baseball team, will be celebrating its Bright Nights light display this winter. Headlining the event will be a 50-foot-tall Ferris wheel, located at the park's Brooks Robinson Plaza.

Despite operating during the holiday season, this particular Ferris wheel's origins involved a different holiday entirely, as a press release about the attraction first came out on April 1, 2023. However, it soon stopped being a joke.

“We’re super excited to bring a highlight piece of amusement parks right here to downtown York,” said Sarah Dailey, the director of partnerships & promotions. “When we were brainstorming what could really show off how cool this event is, we jokingly brought up the April Fool’s Ferris wheel, and now here we are!”

Aside from the Ferris wheel, the event will include crafts, inflatable amusements and outdoor light displays.

The Ferris wheel will be open to eventgoers from Nov. 15 to Dec. 30. Tickets to ride the attraction will be eight dollars per rider. This charge will be separate from the price of standard tickets for Bright Nights, which are $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 4-12 and free for children 3 and under.

Tickets go on sale on Oct. 30, and the event will be open on Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday between 5-9 p.m., as well as on Friday and Saturday from 5-10 p.m.
