YORK, Pa. — An Ohio man is facing multiple felony charges, including kidnapping, after police claim he was found in a York hotel with an underage girl who had been reported missing.

Sanjay Gurung, 20, of Tallmadge, Ohio, was charged on August 27 by West Manchester Township Police, who were investigating the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl who had been reported missing by her father the day before.

Police say Gurung was found with the girl at a York hotel. He initially denied that the girl was in his room with him, but responding officers heard noises coming from inside the room, gained entry, and found the girl.

In an interview with police, the girl reported that she and Gurung had met at a relative's funeral in Ohio a few months ago, and remained in contact on social media. She said Gurung and three friends came to her house and picked her up at 1 a.m. on August 26. The group went to a nearby hotel, where they rented two rooms, but all stayed together in one of the rooms.

Gurung and the girl slept in one bed, while his three friends slept in the other, the girl told police.

The girl was reported missing by her father, who noted she was not in her bedroom at 6:30 a.m. when he woke up on August 26. He told police he assumed she took a bus to school, but reported her missing when he called the school to confirm she was present and was told she had not shown up that day.

Gurung is charged with felony counts of unlawful contact with a minor, kidnapping, interference with custody of children, and corruption of minors, along with misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and corruption of minors.
