City of York begins its search for its 2024 Christmas tree

City officials are looking for a spruce tree that is more than 30 feet tall. If you've got one on your property, the city will remove it for free.

YORK, Pa. — Note: The video is from Dec. 1, 2023.

Yes, we are fully aware that temperatures have exceeded 90 degrees for the fifth consecutive day.

But it's never too early to start looking ahead.

With that thought in mind, the City of York on Wednesday announced it is launching a search for its 2024 Christmas Tree, which will be the centerpiece of its decorations on Continental Square for the holiday season.

If you have a spruce tree over 30 feet tall that you believe would be ideal, the city would like you to contact Carol Godfrey at (717) 845-9351 and provide your name, address and phone number. The City of York will remove the tree at no cost to the property owner.

The city will host a tree-lighting ceremony during its annual Light Up York celebration on Friday, December 6 -- a day when temperatures will be much, much cooler, we can confidently predict.
