YORK, Pa. — York Police have charged a chiropractor with multiple felonies and a misdemeanor after it was revealed that he was hiding a camera in massage rooms where his female patients undressed.
One of the alleged victims in the case is believed to be a juvenile, police claim.
Dr. Tyler Mitcheltree, 28, of York Haven, a chiropractor at Motive Health, located on the 200 block of West Philadelphia Street, was charged with a felony count of knowingly photographing, filming or depicting a sex act on a computer, a felony count of child pornography, and a misdemeanor count of invasion of privacy, according to police.
Authorities began investigating on Oct. 1, when they were contacted by one of Mitcheltree's employees who used Mitcheltree's cell phone to contact patients.
While using the phone, the employee noticed an app called Home Eye on the device. The employee saw a screenshot that appeared to be one of the clinic's massage rooms, police said. She also saw multiple saved videos depicting female patients getting undressed to prepare for massage sessions.
Police stated that the employee recognized one of the patients as a juvenile.
According to the complaint, the employee told police that she thought there could possibly be a hidden camera inside a new clock that had recently appeared in the massage room.
Police interviewed three massage therapists who used the room, all of whom denied using cameras in the space, stating to do so would be unethical. All three recognized photos of the room as the massage room they used at Motive Health, police said.
On Oct. 18, police executed a search warrant and seized Mitcheltree's phone, where they discovered 14 videos dated between Sept. 18 and Oct. 1. All 14 videos depicted female patients in various states of undress, including some that were fully nude. The videos only depicted the victims as they undressed before or re-dressed after a massage session.
One of the victims appeared to be a juvenile, and her juvenile status was later confirmed by one of the massage therapists, according to police.
Mitcheltree was taken into custody on Oct. 21 and was remanded to York County Prison after failing to post bail of $25,000 at his preliminary arraignment. Court records show that he was later released after posting bail.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 1.
