YORK, Pa. — The York City Police Department is starting a service to help combat the rise of porch piracy this holiday season.
The program offers residents the opportunity to have their holiday packages delivered to the police station rather than their front porch.
Most deliveries will be accepted, except packages that weigh more than 25 pounds.
Officials says the service is meant to give people a safe and secure place to have their gifts delivered, free from the threat of potential porch pirates.
"People get stressed during the holiday season," said Michael Muldrow, the York City Police Commissioner. "[Here's] your police department as a community resource, opening [the] doors in a special way to try to meet a need for people."
The service will be offered until Dec. 24.
To pick up your package, a valid ID will be needed.
