York County food bank continues search for forever home after eagle's nest blocks plan

"When a large piece of land was located on the Susquehanna Trail for sale, it seemed like a dream come true," officials with the Food Bank wrote in a statement.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — An eagle's nest has prevented the York County Food Bank from moving forward with building a new home.

Over the past few years, the non-profit has been in search of an existing warehouse to renovate or land to build a much-needed larger, innovative, efficient warehouse to continue providing millions of pounds of food to the York County community.

"When a large piece of land was located on the Susquehanna Trail for sale, it seemed like a dream come true," officials with the Food Bank wrote in a statement.

However, an environmental audit of the new land revealed a protected eagle's nest on the property. No building is permitted within 330 feet of the nest, which makes it unusable for the Food Bank's purposes.

“We were devastated to hear this news after we put so much time, energy, and resources into our building plans. And so, we are back to square one, looking for a property and/or a building that is suitable for our new home. Ideally, we need at least 6 acres of land, zoned industrial or at least 35,000 square feet of warehouse space and room for lots of parking,” said Jennifer Brillhart, President and CEO of York County Food Bank.

Anyone in the community with an "eagle eye" who knows of any property and or buildings available has been encouraged to reach out to info@yorkfoodbank.org or (717) 846-6435.
