York County pizza shop offers food, assistance for anyone in need

Amid Tuesday's storm, the owner of Delta Pizza took to social media asking anyone who needs help to reach out - no questions asked and completely free.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Communities across central Pennsylvania are facing dangerous windy and wet conditions, forcing some to come together to help people in tough situations; a York County pizza shop is going the extra mile to make sure everyone gets through the severe weather safely.

Sal Ferranti is the owner of Delta Pizza, a business started by his parents which has been serving the Delta community since 1984.

Amid Tuesday's storm, Ferranti took to social media asking anyone who needs help to reach out - no questions asked and completely free.

The Facebook statement reads in part:

"We can help! Storm Alert! If you have no vehicle, no water, can't cook...and you really need it...I will bring food or water to you especially if you need help and have kids!  No money needed if you don't have it and no questions asked! "

"We like to give a hand [and] help people. Every so often we're able to bring them something to eat if they need it, or maybe give them a ride," Ferranti explained. "We've been around a long time. People know us and we know them, so we know where need is needed."

The kind gesture isn't out of the ordinary for Sal. Whether it's helping feed kids in need in the area or supporting first responders, he's a part of a neighborhood that has relied on him many times before.

"He's always helping the community, it doesn't take a catastrophic situation for Sal to answer the call. He does a great job," said customer Art Cox.

"He's a pillar of the community," added Delta resident John Zig. "He helps anyone that needs help regardless of weather, regardless of anything."

Moving to Delta with his parents in the 80s, Sal says it's the least he can do for the area that has done so much for him.

"Delta is our home. The people in Delta have welcomed us," said Ferranti. "In turn, the very least we can do is just give back."

He hopes his act of kindness spreads a simple message.

"For all of us, just be kind to one another. Be giving, caring, loving and I think that, as a whole, if we all stick together as one, we're so much better," he told FOX43.
