YORK, Pa. — An investigation of reports that a man had thrown fireworks at a moving car in York last month led to the arrest of another suspect for possession of child pornography, according to a criminal complaint affidavit filed by York County Regional Police.
Jordel Koubidina, 18, of York, was charged on Nov. 8 with possession of child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility after police investigating the fireworks case discovered child pornography on his cell phone, according to the complaint.
Police seized Koubidina's phone to obtain video of one of his friends throwing a sparkler at a moving car on the night of Oct. 30, the complaint states.
The driver of the vehicle contacted police to report that a man had thrown a sparkler onto her hood as she drove along the 2400 block of South Queen Street in York at 10:22 p.m. The vehicle did not sustain any damage in the incident, police said. The victim reported she saw the man who threw the firework at her car run away between two houses on the block.
As a responding officer took the report from the driver, they observed a large firework thrown into the middle of South Queen Street by a male subject in a black hooded sweatshirt, the complaint states. Police gave chase, but were unable to locate the man who threw it. The man was last seen running in the area of South Queen and Cherry streets, police said.
Police responded to the area. One officer hid behind a bush near a home on the 300 block of Cherry Street while other officers canvassed the area in a search for the suspect. Soon after, a man in a black hooded sweatshirt entered the area from the rear of the home. Police identified him as Zachary Reider, a resident of the home.
Reider told police that he and a friend, later identified as Koubidina, were sitting at a bonfire behind the house earlier that evening.
Investigators responded to Koubidina's home, where Koubidina allegedly told them that Reider was the one who threw the firework at the vehicle and claimed to have video of the incident on his phone, which he showed to police.
When informed there was video of the incident, police said, Reider allegedly admitted to throwing the fireworks. Police then obtained a search warrant to obtain Koubidina's phone as evidence in their investigation, the complaint states.
A forensic examination of the phone discovered multiple videos of child pornography saved to the device, according to police.
Investigators then filed the charges against Koubidina.
Police did not say what Reider was charged with as a result of their investigation of the fireworks incident.
