YORK COUNTY, Pa. — The annual 24-hour online giving event to benefit hundreds of York County non-profit groups is coming up in May. Over the next few weeks, FOX43 is exploring some of the non-profit groups benefiting from Give Local York.
One of those organizations is York Fringe.
The York Fringe Festival and York Fringe have one simple mission, to provide a platform for innovative live arts in the City of York.
"We work with artists from all over the country to come to York and do art, do live theatre, dance, music... anything you can imagine," said Karin Swartz, the president of York Fringe.
The event has taken place on and off over the last few years, typically bringing in an audience of roughly 2,000 people per year.
The group aims to keep ticket prices low and accessible.
"People can see things they normally wouldn't see, get introduced to types of performances they haven't seen before," said Swartz.
The Fringe Festival also gives performers a chance to workshop new ideas and test out new things in front of live audiences at a variety of York venues, like Rockfish Public House.
"It's invaluable having an organization that wants to do fun and exciting things that you can't find anywhere else and then bring them to your space so your guests and new people can come and enjoy them is wonderful," said Robert Faucette, the general manager of Rockfish Public House.
York Fringe is funded entirely through private donations, foundations and grants. That's why the annual Give Local York online fundraiser is a very important way to raise needed dollars.
"By helping us out with Give Local York, we are able to funnel all that money to artists and make our festival better," said Swartz.
This year's York Fringe Fest will take place at the end of August during York Arts Week.
Give Local York begins at 9 p.m. on May 2.
