YORK COUNTY, Pa. — It was a day full of screams, cheers and applause.
Another year of the York State Fair has come and gone.
Staff estimate more than 400,000 people walked through the gates over its 10-day run.
“We’re always aiming to go higher as well as get out attendance higher because that just shows the number of people either coming back or new people coming to experience the fair,” said Montgomery Stambaugh, director of marketing and communications for the fairgrounds.
With more than 40 rides and dozens of attractions to visit, guests say this year’s fair is one to remember.
“This is only my second time; last time I came was when I was a baby,” said Shane Nace from Dover.
Nace spent his Sunday at the fair with his family.
Of course, no fair would be complete without the food. This year’s guests had more than 90 vendors to choose from.
“It’s all about the customers, you know, the friendliness of people because we’re local, everybody knows our company,” said Adam Strausbaugh.
Strausbaugh and his food truck, Captain Crab, have served fair guests for more than 10 years.
While people filled their bellies, businesses like Uncle Paul’s filled part of its bottom line.
“This is one of the first of the fairs that we get into for our fair season, so I’d say it’s a pretty good start,” said Ethan Meyer.
Plans for next year’s state fair are already underway.
Stambaugh says people can expect to see more thrills as America’s oldest fair celebrates its 260th year.
“Next year we’re hoping to have more rides and expand our midway to give people more options, whether it’s a kiddie ride or some of those bigger rides like your roller coasters and stuff,” Stambaugh said.
