YORK, Pa. — “It really is everybody’s duty to vote,” said Sandy Harper, a York County resident.
Harper is 102 years old and has been voting for 80 years.
“I didn’t feel like going and waiting in line, because I’m really not too steady anymore,” said Harper.
Another one of his reasons was a little more special.
“80 years ago, I voted with a mail-in ballot, and now 80 years later, probably my last time, I’m voting with an absentee ballot,” said Harper.
He says he’s witnessed so much of America’s history over the years.
“They have come quite a ways. I don’t know if it’s in a real good direction but it’s still the greatest country in the world,” said Harper.
Harper’s daughter, Cyndi Myers, went through some challenges while registering to vote this year. But, like her dad, she was determined to make her voice heard.
“Everybody has to have a say in this particular election. I think every vote counts more than ever,” said Myers.
She says her dad’s will to vote has made a lasting impact on her life and her children’s lives.
“He’s voted in every election, every presidential election. He’s been a great example for every other part of life. So, I figure I better follow his example,” said Myers.
