'I've waited respectfully' | Dave McCormick after announcing senatorial victory

Republican Dave McCormick filed lawsuits against the Philadelphia Board of Elections and its commissioners after celebrating senatorial victory.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — On Thursday, Republican Dave McCormick announced his victory over three-term Democratic Senator Bob Casey.

The Associated Press called the race Thursday afternoon as McCormick led Casey by more than 30,000 votes.

“Senator Casey will have to go through the process he’s going through; I think it’s indisputable that there’s no path to victory, that’s why the AP called it expect for me to have the victory so that’s why I’m moving forward,” McCormick said.

There were not enough outstanding votes still to be counted to close the gap between McCormick and Casey, according to the AP.

There are thousands of provisional ballots yet to be called.

A provisional ballot is not typically counted until after it is verified by election officials.

Philadelphia’s city commissioners began that process this morning.

McCormick filed multiple lawsuits in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas on Friday.

The lawsuits challenge 15,000 to 20,000 provisional ballots considered to be counted by election officials.

Casey’s campaign released the following statement in response to the ongoing vote:

The number of provisional ballots expected from areas that favor Senator Casey, like Philadelphia and its suburbs, is further proof that this race is too close to be called. As the McCormick campaign admitted in their own lawsuit this morning, the counting of these ballots could have an ‘impact on the outcome of the election.’ with more than 100,000 ballots still left to count, we will continue to make sure Pennsylvanians’ voices are heard.

Casey has yet to concede, and it is unknown if there will be a recount.

“I don’t know whether there will be a recount or not, but the people have spoken, there’s a clear victory,” McCormick said.
