PENNSYLVANIA, USA — The race for Pennsylvania State Senate District 33 has been announced.
The Associated Press projects Doug Mastriano (R) defeated Cameron Schroy (D) to represent District 33, which includes all of Adams and Franklin counties.
Mastriano has represented the 33rd District since assuming office in June 2019 and ran unopposed in the April 2024 Republican primaries.
A combat veteran with years of experience, Mastriano was involved in Operation Desert Storm in 1991 to liberate Kuwait and was deployed to Afghanistan three times. After Sept. 11, 2021, Mastriano was the lead planner for the operation to invade Iraq via Turkey. Additionally, Mastriano srved as the director of NATO’s Joint Intelligence Center in Afghanistan, leading people from 18 nations.
As the Republican Party’s nominee for the 2022 gubernatorial election, he lost to Democratic state attorney general Josh Shapiro.
In his current role as senator, Mastriano serves as chair of the Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee and vice chair of the Education Committee. In 2023, he sponsored 209 bills/resolutions, including Senate Bill 272, relating to the requirements of voting machines, Senate Bill 885, to protect older adults from abuse in senior facilities and Senate Bill 658, which prohibits certain animal experiments.
Strong goals within his campaign are security at the southern border, veteran support and services and anti-abortion legislation.
