ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. — Incumbent Doug Mastriano (R) is seeking reelection to represent the 33rd District in the Pennsylvania State Senate. He assumed office in June 2019 and his term will end in Nov. 2024.
Mastriano is a combat veteran with years of experience in the military including Operation Desert Storm in 1991 to liberate Kuwait and three deployments to Afghanistan.
After Sept. 11, 2021, Mastriano was the lead planner for the operation to invade Iraq via Turkey.
Mastriano also served as the director of NATO's Joint Intelligence Center in Afghanistan, leading people from 18 nations.
He also helped shape the minds of multiple generations of students at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle where he taught Strategic Studies to master's degree candidates.
Mastriano lives near Caledonia State Park with his wife Rebecca.
In his current role as senator, Mastriano is part of multiple committees. He serves as chair of the Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee and vice chair of the Education Committee.
On Jan. 6, 2021, Mastriano commissioned buses to take people to the post-election protests in Washington DC.
In 2023, Mastriano sponsored 209 bills/resolutions including Senate Bill 272 relating to the requirements of voting machines, Senate Bill 885 to protect older adults from abuse in senior facilities, and Senate Bill 658 which prohibits certain animal experiments.
Mastriano is a proponent of security at the southern border, veteran support and services, and anti-abortion legislation.
He failed to earn Pennsylvania's governor in the 2022 elections.
Mastriano is running unopposed in the April 2024 Republican primary election.
