HARRISBURG, Pa. — Democrat Erin McClelland will face off against Republican incumbent Stacy Garrity in the Pennsylvania Treasurer election.
McClelland defeated State Representative Ryan Bizzarro, who has represented Erie County since 2012. He has also served as a victim and witness advocate in the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
She will now face off against incumbent Stacy Garrity, who ran unopposed on the Republican ticket. Garrify assumed the Pa. Treasury office in 2021.
According to Ballotpedia, McClelland earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. In 2002, she began a private practice specializing in addiction prevention and treatment. She received her M.S. in counseling psychology from Chatham University in 2003
The treasurer position is often referred to as Pennsylvania’s financial custodian, overseeing $150 billion. The office handles any deposits or withdrawals and controls the state’s unclaimed property. The treasurer’s office is also responsible for investigating any theft or loss and reviewing real estate and contracts entered into by state agencies.
